Both Bitdefender and Kaspersky have scored very well in lab tests conducted independently, with the former offering an overall better performance. Their top plans come with a variety of options, including a password manager and unlimited VPN, and performance optimizer. Although some users have complained that Bitdefender can slow down their systems when they scan however, the company provides an optimization tool to mitigate the effect of this. They also offer protection from phishing attacks, tools to repair ransomware, and malware reporting.

Both companies have a decent customer support center with FAQs, troubleshooting instructions, and video tutorials that are available on their websites. Both companies offer telephone, email, and chat support, and a community forum. Both providers offer remote assistance to premium customers. Kaspersky has an extensive knowledge base, whereas Bitdefender includes their expert community in its support offerings.

In my own testing, Bitdefender was able to block all viruses I threw at it. In independent tests conducted by AV Test and AV Comparatives results were mixed. In AV-Test’s Feb.-March 2021 tests, Bitdefender caught 99.7% of malware, with only four false positives while Kaspersky detected 99.4% of malware and showed zero false flags.
